Where does Stephen Alexander Roth stand on the issues?

Stephen Alexander Roth has a recorded position on eight issues. Each is Civoren's summary of the campaign's own public material, with the source linked.

  • Criminal Justice Reform

    Supports

Supports ending cash bail for non-violent offenses, reforming Section 58A so it is used only for genuine dangerousness, investing in community-based mental health crisis response and addiction treatment as alternatives to incarceration, a living wage for bar advocates and public defenders, civilian oversight of law enforcement, mandatory body cameras, independent use-of-force investigations, and ending qualified immunity.

First, I would end cash bail for non-violent offenses because freedom should never be for sale. Next, I would reform Section 58A so it is used only for genuine dangerousness, with robust due process protections, not as a prosecutorial detention tool.

  • Environment & Sustainability

    Supports

As Vice-Chair of the Salisbury Harbor Commission, supports a comprehensive Merrimack River clean-up plan, stronger pollution standards and real enforcement of discharge regulations, dedicated state restoration funding, coastal erosion mitigation and beach restoration, full implementation of the clean energy roadmap, stronger wetland protections, and a just transition to clean energy.

The Merrimack River runs through the heart of this district and deserves better. I will fight for a comprehensive clean-up plan, stronger pollution standards, real enforcement of discharge regulations, and dedicated state restoration funding.

  • Government Transparency & Accountability

    Supports

Supports transparent and accountable government: stronger public records laws (ending the Legislature/Governor/Judiciary exemptions), independent ethics oversight, ranked choice voting, automatic voter registration and same-day registration, campaign finance reform, and full lobbying disclosure.

Good government is transparent, accountable, and genuinely responsive to every community it serves and not just the most powerful ones.

  • Healthcare Access & Affordability

    Supports

Supports moving Massachusetts toward a universal single-payer healthcare system; in the interim, expanded community health center funding, prescription drug price caps, mental health parity enforcement, increased behavioral health reimbursement rates, addiction treatment investment, community-based mental health crisis response, and legalization of overdose prevention centers.

Healthcare is a human right. That is where I start, and it shapes everything that follows. I support moving Massachusetts toward a universal, single-payer healthcare system because the evidence is overwhelming and no other principle is adequate to the scale of the crisis we face.

  • Housing & Development

    Supports

Supports dramatically increasing affordable housing production through social housing models, inclusionary zoning, public land trusts, and state housing investment; lifting the statewide rent control ban; strengthening renter protections such as just-cause eviction and limits on rent increases; expanding tenant legal aid; and zoning reform to increase housing supply.

Housing is a human right. The market has proven it cannot deliver affordability on its own and it is time for state policy to stop pretending that it will. I propose to dramatically increase the production of affordable housing through social housing models, inclusionary zoning, public land trusts, and significant increases in state housing investment.

  • Immigration

    Supports

As an immigration attorney, supports the PROTECT Act, ending all 287(g) agreements with the federal government, state funding for immigration legal services, language access across government functions, and in-state tuition for DREAMers.

I fully support the PROTECT Act and will continue to fight for further similar protections that keeps Massachusetts a safe and welcoming place for immigrants but also seeking to end all 287(g) agreements with the federal government.
