Stephen C. Stokes was appointed to the Superior Court bench in March 2025 by Governor Josh Stein to fill a vacancy. Prior to this appointment, he served as a District Court Judge in Cumberland County for over a decade, having been elected in 2014. His extensive career includes serving as a deputy sheriff, a state and federal prosecutor, and an attorney in private practice for 16 years. Stokes also had a distinguished military career in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps, where he served as a prosecutor, a defense attorney in the 82nd Airborne Division, and an international law attorney. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Ranger School. Stokes earned his B.S. and J.D. from Florida State University and holds dual master's degrees from Webster University.
