Steve Clouse is a longtime Republican State Representative for Alabama House District 93, which includes parts of Dale and Houston counties in the Wiregrass region. He has served in the legislature since 1994, making him one of Alabama’s longest-serving representatives. Clouse announced his re-election campaign for the 2026 cycle after considering retirement, citing overwhelming encouragement from constituents and fellow House members, including Speaker Ledbetter. He previously stepped down as chairman of the House general fund budget committee to run for Speaker. For the 2026 legislative session, his priorities include addressing health insurance costs and securing cost-of-living increases for education employees, as well as advancing an agricultural genomics project in southeast Alabama. In 2025, he led the passage of House Bill 135, increasing the lodging tax in Dale County to boost local industry.
