Steven Johnson, a Republican, is the incumbent Kansas State Treasurer, having assumed office in January 2023 after winning the 2022 general election. He is seeking re-election in 2026. Raised on a farm near Assaria, Kansas, Johnson earned degrees in Agricultural Economics from Kansas State University and an MBA from the University of Chicago. He worked in financial services before his 2010 election to the state legislature, where he chaired committees like Pensions, Investments and Benefits. As Treasurer, Johnson champions financial literacy, responsible fund management, and an anti-ESG law. He serves on the NAST board and chairs the CSPN.
