Prior to being elected to the state senate, she served as Chair of the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners and as a Northfield Township Trustee. Shink earned a bachelor's degree in political science, a master's degree in resource policy, and a juris doctor from the University of Michigan. She lives on a small farm in Northfield Township with her husband.
