Surluta Anthony has served as a City Councilwoman for the City of Monroe since December 2013 and was appointed Mayor Pro Tem in July 2025. Her professional background includes roles as a Probation Parole Officer with the NC Department of Public Safety and as a Field Director/Mentoring Specialist for the Girl Scouts. She has also been the Owner and Publisher of the Ebon Courier. Anthony is involved in various community organizations, serving on the Board of Directors for Community Health Services Union County and as a Board Member for the National Black Caucus-Local Elected Officials. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Pfeiffer University, an Associate's degree in Christian Studies, and a Certificate in Early Childhood Education.
