Susan Kluttz was appointed to the City Council in February 2025 to fill a vacancy. She previously served as the Mayor of Salisbury for 14 years, from 1997 to 2011, making her the city's longest-serving mayor. Following her mayoral terms, she was appointed by Governor Pat McCrory to serve as the North Carolina Secretary of Natural and Cultural Resources from 2013 to 2017. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
