Susan Ruiz

Susan Ruiz is an incumbent Democratic State Representative for Kansas House District 23, first elected in 2018. As a social worker, she champions social services, serving on committees such as Veterans & Military, Social Services Budget, and Health and Human Services, where she is the Ranking Minority Member. She also worked on interim committees related to home and community-based services, KanCare, child welfare, and targeted case management. Ruiz, who holds BSW and MSW degrees, made history as one of the state’s first openly LGBT state legislators. She is running for re-election, focusing on continuing positive change and protecting freedoms, and has notably advocated for sales tax exemptions on feminine hygiene products and diapers.
