Terrence Davis is the Democratic candidate for South Dakota Secretary of State in 2026. Born in Peoria, Illinois, he overcame homelessness and a low-income upbringing with the support of his foster mother, later earning a degree in Criminal Justice and a master's degree in Public Policy, and is now pursuing a doctorate in Law and Policy. He is a former police officer and state trooper who served in two states — as a Tennessee State Trooper (including the Governor's Security Detail) and later as a South Dakota State Trooper assigned to the Sioux Falls district. He is a husband and father; his wife is a public-school teacher with more than 20 years of experience.
