Thomas E. Pope, known as Tommy Pope, is a Republican politician born in Rock Hill, South Carolina, in 1962. An alumnus of the University of South Carolina, he previously served as solicitor for the 16th Judicial Circuit from 1993 to 2006, notably prosecuting Susan Smith and recommending against her parole in 2024. Currently a managing partner at Elrod Pope Law Firm in Rock Hill, he has been a Member of the South Carolina House of Representatives for the 47th District since 2010. He also holds the influential position of Speaker pro tempore, a role he assumed in 2014 and was re-elected to by acclamation in 2024, demonstrating his continued leadership within the state legislature.
