Tola Marts was first elected to the Issaquah City Council in 2009 and was reelected in 2013, 2017, and 2021. He has served as Council President three times. He grew up in upstate New York and Minnesota and has a background as a mechanical engineer, having worked for several software and aerospace companies. His primary focus on the council has been on community sustainability, workforce housing, and living-wage jobs.
