With his wife Chris, he owned and operated Wilderness Cruises in Wisconsin's Northwoods for 20 years and served 29 years as dam tender on the Willow Flowage. He has served on a town board, in the Wisconsin Legislature (first elected 2010), and as U.S. Representative for Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District (since 2020).
