She earned her undergraduate degree in English from North Carolina Central University in 1996 and her J.D. from the North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2000. After being admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 2000, she worked as an attorney at Rogers and Miller, and later became the managing attorney at Miller, King & Clouse, PLLC. In March 2009, she was appointed as a district court judge for the 12th Judicial District by Governor Bev Perdue. She won a full term in 2010 and was re-elected in subsequent elections. Her current term is set to expire on December 31, 2026.
