Vanna Howard is a Cambodian-born American politician and a Democrat serving as Massachusetts State Senator for the 1st Middlesex District (Dunstable, Dracut, Lowell, Pepperell, and Tyngsborough). She came to the U.S. at age 11 after surviving the Cambodian genocide and experienced homelessness, hunger, and domestic violence. She previously served as State Representative for the 17th Middlesex District (2021-2026), worked on the staff of Congresswoman Niki Tsongas, and served in the District Attorney's Office. In March 2026 she won a special election to fill the Senate seat left vacant by the death of Sen. Ed Kennedy.
