William Francis Galvin

William Galvin is a native of Brighton, Massachusetts. He earned a bachelor's degree from Boston College in 1972 and a law degree from Suffolk University Law School in 1975. He began his political career as an aide to the Governor's Council and, in 1975, won a special election to the Massachusetts House of Representatives for the Allston-Brighton district, a seat he held until 1990. That year he was the Democratic nominee for state treasurer but lost the general election to Republican Joe Malone. Galvin has served as Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth since 1995.
