Prior to his appointment, he was a solo practitioner for over two decades, focusing on domestic and criminal law. From 1998 to 2003, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in the 30th Judicial District. Jones earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Carolina University and his Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law. He grew up in Sylva, North Carolina.
