William R. Whitmire, known as Bill, is a Republican member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, serving the 1st District (parts of Oconee & Pickens Counties) since 2002. Born in Seneca, South Carolina, in 1948, he is a retired educator and a farmer, having also served in the United States Army Reserves. His political career began in Walhalla, where he served on the City Council and as Mayor from 2000 to 2002 before being elected to the state House. He graduated from Piedmont College. He was recently involved in legislation to recognize Ebony Young for distinguished service to the state.
