Ya Liu

Ya Liu is the current representative for North Carolina's House District 21. She assumed office on January 1, 2023. Before her time in the state legislature, she was the first Asian American elected to the Cary Town Council. Liu earned two doctoral degrees in sociology and law and has worked as a faculty member at Duke Law School. She is also a small business owner. Originally from China, she came to the United States for higher education. She and her husband have three children and reside in Cary.
