Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, to migrant farm workers, she later settled in the Walla Walla area and graduated from Walla Walla Community College with a degree in early learning. She owned and operated a bi-lingual childcare for 13 years. Her public service includes roles on the Auburn Planning Commission, Governor Locke's Grassroots Early Learning Commission, and the Washington State Department of Transportation Safety Committee.
