Yusuf M Yusuf

Yusuf M. Yusuf is a Democratic State Representative for Maine's District 118, encompassing part of Portland. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, he immigrated to the U.S. in 2007 after living in Syria. He earned a B.S. in sociology from Western Washington University in 2016 before moving to Maine. His professional background includes experience as a small business owner, educator, mental health case manager, and community advocate. First elected in 2024, he assumed office in December of that year and is seeking re-election in the 2026 Democratic primary. A community voice, he has publicly advocated for a Gaza ceasefire and criticized remarks about Somalia.
