Yvette D. Clarke is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative for New York's 9th congressional district, a position she has held since 2007. Born in Brooklyn to Jamaican immigrants, she grew up in the Flatbush neighborhood, where she still resides. Before her election to Congress, Clarke served on the New York City Council representing the 40th district, succeeding her mother. In Congress, she is a Senior Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
