Yvonne Yiu immigrated to the United States from Hong Kong at the age of 16. She earned a bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an MBA in Finance from Loyola Marymount University. She also completed the Certified Regulatory and Compliance Professional Program through the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Yiu has over 25 years of experience in the financial industry, having worked at Merrill Lynch, E*Trade, and Citibank. She founded her own investment and brokerage firm which managed over $500 million in assets. In 2020, she was elected to the Monterey Park City Council and later served as the city's Mayor. She has previously run for California State Controller in 2022 and for the California State Senate in 2024.
