Zooey Zephyr is an openly transgender Democratic State Representative for Montana's District 95, having assumed office in 2025. She made history as the first openly transgender person elected to the Montana Legislature in 2022. A former university administrator and activist, she advocates fiercely for human rights, affordable housing, healthcare, infrastructure, and climate change. Her political career was motivated by a desire to influence legislation after witnessing anti-trans bills pass by narrow margins. After being banned from the House floor in 2023 for speaking out against anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, she was overwhelmingly re-elected in 2024 and is currently seeking re-election in the 2026 Democratic primary.
