Alby Clendennin is a Democratic candidate running for election to the Washington House of Representatives, representing District 43-Position 1, with the primary set for August 4, 2026. Clendennin, an openly gay man, grew up in a conservative area of northwest Florida, where the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting moved him to become involved in activism. He views the legislative position as a catalyst for change in the 43rd district and developed a strong connection to Seattle's affirming community and its large "transplant" population after an internship. He currently serves as a Student Affairs Practitioner and Resident Director at the University of Washington. He previously held leadership roles at Appalachian State University, including Graduate Student Body President, and various student affairs positions at the University of West Florida.
