Anthony 'A.J.' Connors is the first African-American mayor of Warsaw, North Carolina, winning his first election by a narrow margin. He was born and raised in neighboring Sampson County and returned to the Warsaw area in 2002. Connors has a background as a substitute teacher, has served in the military, and is a pastor. In 2009, he received a Doctorate in Sacred Religious Sciences. He has also served as the moderator for the Kenansville Eastern Missionary Baptist Association (KEMBA), overseeing 48 churches.
