Anthony "Tony" Covington, a Democrat, has served as the State's Attorney for Charles County, Maryland, since January 3, 2011. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served as a signals intelligence officer before earning his J.D. from the American University, Washington College of Law. His legal career began as an Assistant State's Attorney in Prince George's County and later in Charles County. Before his election, he was the Deputy State's Attorney for Charles County and also worked in private practice. He was the first African American to be sworn in as the State's Attorney for Charles County and has been re-elected multiple times.
