April Verlato was born and raised in Arcadia, California. She earned a bachelor's degree in political science from UCLA and a law degree from Southwestern School of Law. In 2000, she took over her father's law practice, specializing in Personal Injury, Estate Planning, Probate, and Trust Litigation. Verlato was elected to the Arcadia City Council in 2016 and served as Mayor starting in 2020. She has also served as the Vice President of the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments Executive Board.
