Bill Hagerty is a Tennessee businessman and former diplomat serving as the junior United States Senator from Tennessee since January 2021. A native of Gallatin in Sumner County, Tennessee, he is an Eagle Scout and earned a B.A. in economics and business administration from Vanderbilt University in 1981 and a J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School in 1984. He began his career at Boston Consulting Group, later became a venture capital and private equity investor and co-founder of Hagerty Peterson & Company, and served as Tennessee Commissioner of Economic and Community Development from 2011 to 2014. He served as U.S. Ambassador to Japan from 2017 to 2019. He and his wife Chrissy have four children and live in Davidson County, Tennessee.
