Brian Roth previously served as the Mayor of Plymouth, North Carolina, for sixteen years, from 2001 to 2019. He ran for re-election in 2019 but was defeated in the general election. Prior to his political career, he served in the Navy as a commissioned naval officer. During his time as mayor, Plymouth focused on diversifying its local economy by promoting ecotourism. He has received the NOAA Walter B. Jones Sr. Award for Excellence in Local Government and the N.C. Wildlife Federation's Governor's Award for Municipal Conservationist of the Year.
