During his incarceration at Angola, he became a self-taught jailhouse lawyer, assisting hundreds of other incarcerated individuals with their legal cases. After his release in 2011, he earned a bachelor's degree in paralegal studies from Tulane University and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Lewis & Clark Law School. He is the director of The Light of Justice Program, which helps incarcerated people access the courts. His memoir, "The Jailhouse Lawyer," was released in 2025.
