He graduated from South Brunswick High School in 1984 and earned a degree in basic law enforcement from Cape Fear Community College. His career experience includes serving as the chief deputy of the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, working as a nuclear security specialist, and owning a small business, Brunswick Embroidery & Screenprinting. Prior to his state legislature role, Miller also served on the Brunswick County School board.
