Clara LaWana Slack-Mayfield is an incumbent at-large member of the Charlotte City Council, first elected citywide in 2022. She previously represented District 3 from 2011 to 2019. Originally from Miami, Florida, she moved to Charlotte and became a grassroots community advocate. She was the first openly LGBTQ+ person elected to the Charlotte City Council. She has studied at Winston-Salem State University, Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, and Central Piedmont Community College.
