Reverend Dr. Clifford D. Barnett, Sr. was first elected to the Wilmington City Council in 2017 and was re-elected in 2021 and 2023. He currently serves as the Mayor Pro-Tem. In addition to his role on the city council, Dr. Barnett was appointed pastor of Warner Temple A.M.E. Zion Church in October 2009. He is actively involved in the community, serving as Chairman of the Southeastern Dropout Prevention Coalition at UNC-Wilmington, Co-chair of the NHC Community Resilience Task Force, and a member of the D. C. Virgo Prep Academy Board of Advisors, among other roles.
