David Zagaroli is the incumbent councilman for Ward 5, having served since 2013. Born in Owosso, Michigan, he moved to the area and joined the Drexel Furniture Company in 1965. He later started his own furniture design company in 1970, from which he retired in 2012. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University.
