Derek Schmidt is the Republican U.S. Representative for Kansas' 2nd Congressional District, serving since January 3, 2025. A fifth-generation Kansan from Independence, he previously served twelve years as Kansas Attorney General (2011–2023) — personally arguing three cases before the U.S. Supreme Court — and a decade in the Kansas Senate (2001–2011), including six years as majority leader. He graduated from Independence High School, the University of Kansas, the University of Leicester (UK), and Georgetown University Law Center; he and his wife Jennifer have two grown daughters.
