Donald Mial is the incumbent for District 1 on the Wake County Board of Commissioners, having assumed office in December 2022. He is a retired public servant from the N.C. Department of Public Safety and a retired Army Chief Warrant Officer Four with a 30-year military career. His educational background includes a Master's in Public Administration and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from North Carolina Central University, a B.A. in History and Government from St. Augustine College, and an A.A.S. in Paralegal Technology. Mial has extensive civic experience, including serving on the Wake County Board of Elections, the N.C. Victim Compensation Commission, the Raleigh Board of Adjustment, and the Wake County Board of Adjustment. Upon retirement, he received the "Order of the Longleaf Pine," North Carolina's highest civilian award.
