Edwin 'Eddie' Glenn Cathey grew up in the mountains of North Carolina and graduated from Pisgah High School. He served in the US Army as a Military Policeman and Canine Handler. His law enforcement career began as an officer for the Canton Police Department before he joined the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP). After retiring from the Highway Patrol as a First Sergeant, he was first elected Sheriff of Union County in 2002. In 2022, he was elected for his sixth consecutive term and is running for a seventh term in 2026.
