A graduate of East High School and Iowa State University, he is the son of Mexican immigrants. As a high school student, he co-led a successful campaign to remove School Resource Officers from Des Moines Public Schools and reinvest in restorative justice practices, which led to a significant reduction in juvenile justice complaints from schools. He currently works as a Community Health Worker, focusing on issues like food access and healthcare navigation. He also co-founded 'The Color of Love,' a student organization at Iowa State University focused on building community for students of color.
