Gary Nerlund was born and raised in Norton Shores, Michigan. He attended Kalamazoo College where he studied political science. Nerlund has served as the Mayor of Norton Shores since 2009 and is completing his fourth term. In addition to his role as mayor, he owns a State Farm Insurance agency in Muskegon Heights.
