Guillermo A. Nurse

Guillermo Nurse is the current mayor of Oxford, elected in November 2023. He is the first Black and first Latino mayor of the city. Born in the Panama Canal Zone, he immigrated to the United States at 17 and served for 22 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He and his wife, Kirsa, have lived in Oxford since 2010. Prior to becoming mayor, he served as a Facility Operations Manager and was appointed to the Oxford Planning Board in 2022. He also has experience coaching professional basketball, including for Panama's national team.
