James Roy Gorham, also known as J.R., is a retired Brigadier General in the North Carolina National Guard, the first African American to achieve this rank. He also worked for First Citizens Bank for 29 years, becoming a vice president. From 2013 to 2017, he served as the N.C. Commissioner of Juvenile Justice. He is the author of “Sharecropper's Wisdom – Growing Today's Leaders the Old-Fashioned Way.”
