John Curtis Ager Jr. was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1949. He graduated from Williams College. For many years, he and his wife have worked Hickory Nut Gap Farm in Fairview, a family farm now in its fifth generation. Ager served four terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 2015 to January 1, 2023, representing District 115. He did not seek re-election to the House in 2022. His son, Eric Ager, currently represents District 114. John Ager was a candidate for North Carolina State Senate District 46 in 2024. He has served on various local boards, including the Buncombe County Agricultural Advisory Board.
