John S. Arrowood is an incumbent judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals, having served since 2017. He was previously appointed to the court in 2007-2008. Born in Burnsville, North Carolina, he graduated magna cum laude from Catawba College and earned his J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. Before his judicial appointments, he worked as a staff attorney for the Court of Appeals and was a partner at the law firm James, McElroy & Diehl, P.A. in Charlotte. In 2018, he became the first openly gay person to win a statewide election in North Carolina.
