Joseph Lipner was appointed as a Judge to the Superior Court of Los Angeles County by Governor Jerry Brown in February 2018. Prior to his appointment, he was a partner at the law firm Irell & Manella LLP, where he had worked since 1991. He also served as a litigation associate for Professor Alan Dershowitz at Harvard Law School from 1989 to 1991 and was a law clerk for Judge Ruth Abrams of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court from 1988 to 1989. Lipner earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. from Yeshiva College.
