Kay Carvajal Moran was born and raised in South Minneapolis's District 5. She is a first-generation Mexican American and a graduate of Roosevelt High School and Augsburg University, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and History. Currently, she works as a Case Manager Assistant at Hennepin County, connecting tenants with housing and rental resources. She has also been a community organizer with the Minnesota Immigrant Movement, where she worked on passing the Sidewalk Food Cart Street Vendor Ordinance and facilitated a youth internship program called Constructores de Paz.
