Kristin Mink, a Democrat, represents District 5 on the Montgomery County Council since December 2022. A first-generation Chinese-American, she was born and raised in the county, attending Montgomery Blair High School. Mink is a former Montgomery County Public Schools teacher and previously worked as the Senior Legislative Organizer for the Center for Popular Democracy, a national nonprofit advocating for justice. On the council, she serves on the Public Safety and the Education and Culture Committees. Her policy priorities include tenant protections, infrastructure investment, expanded healthcare access, and promoting clean energy.
