Lisa Calderon was elected to the California State Assembly in November 2020. She was born and raised in California's Central Valley to parents who were farmworkers. She graduated from California State University, Sacramento, working her way through college as a waitress. Early in her career, she was a legislative aide for former Assembly Speaker Willie Brown. Prior to her election, she worked as a government affairs director for Edison International, where she gained experience in renewable energy policy and wildfire mitigation. She has resided in Whittier for over 30 years with her husband, Charles Calderon, a former state senator and assembly member.
