Liz Ortega is the incumbent California State Assembly Member representing District 20, having assumed office in December 2022. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Ortega immigrated to the U.S. as a child and was raised in Oakland. She earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice administration from the University of Phoenix. Prior to her election to the State Assembly, she served as the statewide political director for AFSCME Local 3299 and as executive secretary-treasurer of the Alameda Labor Council.
