Lonnie Cole has served as a member of the Town of Stem Board of Commissioners for over 30 years. He also served for more than 42 years with the Stem Volunteer Fire Department, including 32 years as Chief, and was named an honorary member upon his retirement in 2019. Cole was an employee at John Umstead and Central Regional hospitals in Butner for 33 years before retiring in 2020. He was awarded the Order of the Longleaf Pine, the highest civilian honor in North Carolina, in April 2025.
