Lorig Charkoudian serves as a Democratic member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing the constituents of District 20. She officially assumed her duties in this role on January 9, 2019. Her academic background is extensive, highlighted by a Ph.D. in economics which she earned from Johns Hopkins University. Prior to her doctoral studies, she completed her undergraduate education at Pomona College, graduating with a B.A. in mathematical economics. Before entering the legislature, Charkoudian dedicated herself to public service as the Executive Director of Community Mediation Maryland, a position she held beginning in 2004. In her legislative capacity, she holds the significant position of Vice-Chair of the Economic Matters Committee. A key area of her legislative focus has been on issues related to unemployment insurance. Additionally, Delegate Charkoudian is an active member of both the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus and the Women Legislators of Maryland.
